Overview

Nafaqa (maintenance) in Jordan is governed by Personal Status Law No. 36 of 2010, covering food, clothing, housing, and medical care.

Types

  • Spousal maintenance: due upon valid marriage.
  • Child maintenance: father liable until sons turn 18 (24 in education) and daughters marry.
  • Relatives maintenance: adult children support incapacitated parents.
  • Waiting period maintenance: divorced wife during iddah.

Claiming Maintenance

File in Sharia court, request temporary order, present evidence, and enforce via execution department. Past maintenance claims are limited to three years prior to filing.
