In over twenty years before Jordanian courts, I have noticed a recurring pattern: many defendants damage their own cases before their lawyers have a chance to defend them. Here are the most important lessons from criminal courtrooms.

1. Silence Is a Constitutional Right — Use It

The Jordanian Constitution and Article 65 of the Criminal Procedure Law explicitly grant the defendant the right to remain silent. Many clients fell into the "clarification" trap during interrogation, only for their statements to be used against them later.

2. Early Documentation — Your Strongest Weapon

Document everything immediately: photos, messages, witnesses, call records. Digital evidence decides many cases today.

3. Choose Your Lawyer Carefully

Not every lawyer is equipped to handle criminal cases effectively. Choose a specialist with a proven track record before criminal courts.

4. The Investigation Stage Matters More Than the Trial

Over 70% of criminal case outcomes are determined at the preliminary investigation stage. Early lawyer intervention makes a huge difference.
